Combining Rover and Triumph into the Specialist Division for the Britsh Leyland Group in 1971, they were actioned to create a new vehicle for the group, which would become the Rover Specialist Division Number 1, or SD1, for short, but a very long process for the car to finally be produced in 1976. In 1985 Jean-Louis Schlesser driving this wonderfully liveried Rover took the crown in the hotly contested French Supertourisme series. Against fierce opposition the legendary French driver took the Rover to the top step at numerous races, and proved it wasn’t just a tin-top to be reckoned with in the UK!
