Atlas 20008542 HO Scale Pullman 12-1 Sleeper Painted Unlettered (Pullman Green)
Sectional Pullman sleepers were the mainstay of most long-distance trains, as they could carry more passengers at lower fares (and higher operating profit per car) than cars which offered private compartments and drawing rooms. A section accommodating 3 people consisted of two seats facing each other with a drop-down berth above, separated from the common center aisle by a heavy curtain at night.
The most ubiquitous sectional floor plan that Pullman offered was the 12-1 sleeper, consisting of 12 sections and one private drawing room usually marketed for family travel as it had its own restroom and sink, and could comfortably sleep 2 adults and 2 children. Approximately 1000 cars of Plan 3410 (and minor variants) were produced between 1923 and 1930, following nearly 4500 cars of the earlier plan 2410, making the 12-1 the single largest class of Pullman heavyweight sleepers ever produced.
